An away performance built on defensive grit and determination saw Bromley return from the Moss Rose with all three points and a piece of history-making in the process.
In front of the live BT Sport cameras, Bromley were able to record their first ever win on national television and in doing so leave themselves only five wins away from National league safety.
With only one defeat in their last ten league and cup games and the run defined by making themselves difficult to beat, Bromley were always going to fancy their chances particularly if they could nullify the threat of, Macclesfield danger man, Danny Rowe.
Tentative in the initial stages in front of the live cameras both sides struggled to stamp their authority on the game with the first chance only arriving in the 19th minute. A David Fitzpatrick cross was only partially cleared to Jack Mackreth whose half-volley from the edge of the area fizzed wide of the right hand post.
It took another 16 minutes for any other meaningful action to take place, when it did it led to Bromley not only opening the scoring but also waking the spectators from their early afternoon slumber.
Neat interchange on the edge of the Macclesfield area created some space for Blair Turgott to run at the defence, although he could only scuff his effort it played to Bromley’s advantage as the ball fell to the feet of Tobi-Sho Silva who controlled and slotted the ball past Craig Ross with consummate ease.
With a lead to hold unto in the second half the game predictably took on the shape of attack vs defence. Macclesfield dominated possession but continually came up against a resolute Bromley rearguard marshalled by the excellent Rob Swaine and Jack Holland.
Within two minutes of the restart Andy Halls dangerous cross evaded everyone in the penalty area when only the simplest touch would have led to an equaliser.
Danny Rowe repeated the trick four minutes later, his cross was back-heeled beyond the post by Chris Holyrod.
Paul Lewis should have done better in the 67th minute, he did well to anticipate a wayward header from Jack Holland but he volleyed high and wide when well set inside the penalty area.
In a rare forage into the Macclesfield penalty area Sho-Silva was presented with a golden opportunity courtesy of Adam Cunnington. Cunnington did well to head on a long ball and as Sho-Silva broke clear of the Macclesfield defence he placed his shot well over the crossbar under pressure from Halls.
That chance represented only a momentary break from the general pattern of play as Macclesfield continued to control possession. They came close to equalising in the 72nd minute as Danny Rowe’s dipping half volley crashed against the underside of the crossbar and away to safety before eventually finding the deserved equaliser six minutes from time.
Substitute Richie Wellens played a neat disguised pass into the feet of birthday boy Lewis who took aim from 22 yards out, but his drive took a big deflection off Holland wrong-footing Alan Julian to tie the game up.
If the goal should have galvanised Macclesfield to go on and press for a winner Bromley clearly had not read the script. Straight from kick off, the ball was worked to Conor Dymond whose left wing cross was only cleared as far as Blair Turgott who created space for himself before shooting into the corner of the net to send the Bromley fans wild.
Macclesfield were unable to summon the necessary guile needed to force a second equaliser in the remainder of the game as Bromley held on for a historic win.
