Macclesfield 0-0 Gillingham

Gillingham extended their unbeaten run to seven games with a battling point in the goalless draw at a snowy Moss Rose on Saturday afternoon.

In a game that was devoid of a lot of real chances, a point was probably  a fair result for Andy Hessenthaler’s side.

Hessenthaler made just the one change to the side that started the FA Cup tie at Leyton Orient the week before with Jo Kuffour coming back into the side in place of Stefan Payne.

With the game getting the go ahead after the pitch had to be cleared of snow in the morning, both sides were slow to thaw and the game was slow to get going.

Neither side managed to get to grips with the conditions and fans were left to watch the snow piled up on the side of the pitch rather than the sol called action on it.

Macclesfield’s George Donnelly almost opened the scoring on the half hour mark, but Gills skipper Andy Frampton was alert and snuffed out the chance.

At the other end Danny Kedwell was denied by Macclesfield keeper Jose Veiga who had to turn The Gills striker’s fierce effort round his post.

The Gills started the second half brighter than they had done so for the whole of the first half and Danny Jackman forced Veiga into a fine save with the Macclesfield alert enough to be up on his feet to block the follow up shot from Curtis Weston.

Despite the introduction of both Frank Nouble and Chris Whelpdale as the minutes wound down, Gillingham were unable to break down a stubborn Macclesfield defence and in the end they had to settle for a point.
