Guy Luzon was not impressed with the way his team played on Wednesday night losing 1-0 to Genk.
This is what he had to say to the club’s website after the game:
“I don’t like the way we played and also the tempo, but it’s normal that you are not sharp at this period of pre-season.
“We were not quick with the ball or accurate with the pass, but every game, whether you are in Belgium or in England, it is important to show that we have the tempo and passion to play because this is the base to build from.
“From that we will improve, but of course we have a lot of space and room to improve and we know it.
“We also know that we need to recruit other new players in certain positions, so we are waiting for that.
“Genk are two weeks ahead of us in pre-season, but that isn’t the issue. The issue is that we need to get better so we will do that,” said the head coach.
Stephen Henderson, Chris Solly, Rhoys Wiggins, Tareiq Holmes-Dennis and skipper, Johnnie Jackson, will not be risked on Sint Truiden’s artificial pitch.
Instead, the quintet will be involved in the match against Dulwich Hamlet at Champion Hill on Saturday.
Though an eminently sensible decision, there was no mention of it before the team left.
Luzon referred to a lack of tempo against Genk and he may want to get 60 or 70 minutes into as many of his squad as possible.
The head coach is clearly not happy with the lack of new faces and is keen to have his squad assembled as soon as possible.
The collapse of the Frederic Bulot deal will have disappointed him, and the expected new arrival ahead of the Genk game also failed to materialise.
Luzon may see some arrivals next week.
