Lovell signs new Gillingham deal

Steve Lovell has put pen to paper on a contract which will see him remain as Gillingham manager for the next two seasons.

Chairman Paul Scally revealed earlier in the year that a two-year deal had been offered to Lovell, who initially took charge on a caretaker basis on October 12 2017, following the departure of Peter Taylor.

The former Welsh international striker guided the club to victory in his first game away at Peterborough United, and after a string of impressive results he was given the job until the end of the season.

In total Lovell has been in charge for 34 competitive fixtures, winning 13.

Speaking to the press prior to Saturday’s game at Oldham he said: “It’s all sorted. I’m glad the Chairman has given me the opportunity and I’m very happy.

“When we’re safe then I can start looking at players that we’ve got listed and see what we can do to bring them in for next year.”
