Steve Lovell takes his Herne Bay side to Beckenham Town this weekend looking to keep pace with the sides at the top of the Isthmian Southeast division.
Lovell’s side head for Beckenham looking to extend their recent good League run that has seen just a League defeat at Sittingbourne, the only reverse in League games since the August Bank Holiday Monday.
“We’ve got a level of consistency so far as the League has been good for us so far,” Lovell told us.
“We lost against Ramsgate, but that game could have gone either way and then at Sittingbourne we were disappointed not to have gotten something out of that game, but the rest have been quite good as I am still trying to get to my best eleven and the system that we are playing.”
“We knew it would take a little bit of time, but we are getting there. The performances are getting more consistent and if you perform well, you will eventually get the results.”
“We have got to take each game as it comes and if you do not perform on the day the opposition will turn you over and it is going to be the case for sides that we have got coming up starting at Beckenham at the weekend.”
“We have got to perform ourselves and cannot just turn up to get the results. Beckenham will be trying hard to get the points on the board as they have had a disappointing start, so they will be looking to move up the League.”
“It surprises me a little bit how Beckenham have started as they were very good last year, but at this level, players move on and possibly players have left – I don’t know – but clubs change in our League week to week as teams can’t put players on contracts…”
“There’s no easy games in football and if we play like we can do, we’ve got a chance of getting the result!”
“We did well against Folkestone in the League Cup on Tuesday – I was pleased with the performance and even Folkestone people said that we had enough chances to win the game before the penalties and we played really well.”
“I was more concerned about the performance and getting players out on the pitch who needed minutes.”
“These Cups can be used in different ways, and I look at it as a training session with a result at the end of it. There’s nothing better than playing games and obviously you would like to win, as we did against Sheppey in the previous round, but again you give players minutes who have not played in the League, and it gives you a chance to see what they can do.”
“And the ones who went in on Tuesday now give me a bit of a headache to pick a team ahead of Saturday, but it’s a nice position to be in!”
“We’ve got a couple of niggles that we’ve got to sort before Saturday, but we’ve got enough to go out and put on a performance and get the result!”
