Herne Bay recorded their first win of the season to secure FA Cup progress against Bedfont Sports leaving boss Steve Lovell a very happy man.
Speaking to KSN the morning after the 3-0 win, Lovell told us, “It was a different performance from Saturday’s first game. At the weekend we weren’t very good really, we didn’t create anything, we didn’t look like creating anything and full credit to Bedfont as they stopped us from doing anything and they got their replay out of it!”
“But back at home I changed it up a bit, different formation, different personnel, and it was very good, excellent performance and I think it’s the best performance I’ve seen since I joined the Club in the summer!”
“We started very brightly which is in contrast to the last couple of games where we haven’t, and we’d looked nervous! But I put a couple of young lads into the game who were really quick and direct.
“They made the difference, Saturday we had one shot on goal and on Tuesday within the first ten minutes we had seven! Just shows you if you start the game well, could have been two or three up in the opening ten minutes.
“They had to change their shape to try and stop us by which time we were two goals up, the first was a well worked move and a great finish from Gil (Carvalho) and then Kane (Rowland) got one shortly afterwards leaving the game pretty much up then, and it was a case of how many would we get! Dan Carrington got the third after half-time from a set play and it could have been more.
“We hit the bar, the keepers made a couple of saves and we had a couple more hacked away, it was good to watch. It was very comfortable, and the boys enjoyed it!”
“We know we could have got a few more but we were in control of the game, and it was a good performance!” The Bays reward in the First Qualifying Round a week on Saturday is trip to Redhill.
