A hopeful Lordswood side look to push forwards against Shoreham FC in the FA Cup on Saturday following a narrow defeat away from home to Bearsted FC midweek.
Following the match Nicky Southall said it was one of the teams’ best performances he has seen and that the boys were unlucky to not get three points in which he thought should have been 1-3 to the Lords considering their chances.
Despite going down to 10 men after 20 minutes, Bearsted did not let that stop them and Jesse Darko pulled off a wonderful strike from 40 yards which soared over the head of the Lordswood defender and straight into the back of the net before Leighton Fanshawe (Lordswood’s newest addition) even had time to react.
However, the fight was on and Lordswood were able to equalise right after halftime through forward Jake Embery as he found the ball at his feet, drove into the box, dibbled past both the defender and goalkeeper to put it away.
Lordswood kept the pressure coming in the second half as they had corner after corner and were able to pin the hosts in their own half for the majority, but in the closing stages Bearsted found themselves with a free kick on the edge of the box and unable to clear their lines Lordswood conceded right on the whistle causing them to fall short at the final hurdle.
The Lords are now looking onwards to their FA Cup fixture on Saturday against Shoreham FC in hope they can put Tuesday behind them and progress into the next round.
Here’s what Nicky Southall had to say when asked about the fixture:
‘Firstly, I am under no illusions that tomorrow’s match will be very tough, and I am fully aware that Shoreham will leave everything out there on the pitch and it will be a tough game’
‘The FA Cup for me is very personal like I have said previously I have been lucky to play in two Quarter finals and had some wonderful memories in the FA Cup throughout my career, so todays tie is no different we all have to make our new memories and a little bit of history for the archives. We want as a club to go as far as we can and enjoy the ride , the FA Cup brings a lot of interest especially the deeper you go through the rounds and also like any club chairman / board brings in prize money for every game you win so there’s even more of a incentive to try and get to the next round’.
Lordswood kick off at 3pm on Saturday afternoon at the Martyn Grove and staff within the club urge everyone to come down and get behind the boys.
