Lordswood aim for new heights after their 3-1 win over Shoreham FC in the FA Cup on Saturday, which equaled their best ever cup run which was last achieved 19 years ago.
From the whistle the Lords started off strongly, pushing Shoreham onto the back foot straight away with Matt Gething having a great shot towards goal in which was denied by a great stop from the Shoreham keeper Elliot Dailly.
The pressure continued from the hosts as Shoreham struggled to settle into the fixture with Jake Embery firing towards goal in the 20th and 26th minute but once again denied by two great saves from Dailly.
Eventually the Musselmen grew into the game and applied heavy pressure late on in the half, forcing Lordswood to sit back and hold on with one hand. Shoreham had several shots towards towards Lee Kidman in the Lord’s goal but ultimately couldn’t find the finishing touch and the hosts were able to hold on until the whistle.
The second half was off to a quick start when Callum Peck found the ball at his feet and fired a powerful strike at goal but hit the crossbar, allowing Shoreham to regain possession which gave them the opportunity to start a quick counterattack in hopes to catch the Lords off guard but was finished almost instantly as the ball went out of of play.
In the 65th minute Nico Cotton drove forward with the ball, beating everyone around him before eventually laying it off to Brad Schafer in front of goal, but he could not manage to find his feet and put the ball narrowly wide.
Lordswood went in front through a freak accident when Elliot Dailly went to take his goal kick, but the ball hit his defender and slowly rolled into the back of the net. The pressure kept coming from Nicky Southall’s men when Jarred Trespaderne had a chance from range, but the ball took a deflection on its way through which resulted in a corner.
Both teams made substitutions to try and give them the edge over the game, but unfortunately for the visitors Lordswood substitute Elliott Duncan doubled the lead which would almost guarantee them a spot in the next qualifying round.
However, there was late drama as Shoreham caught Lordswood quickly and scored straight from kickoff which gave them a last chance to take the game to a replay, but a minute later Lordswood substitute Harry Fleming found the ball at his feet and decided to send a rocket towards goal from 45 yards out which gave the Lords the winning edge as the game finished 3-1.
Lordswood now face Binfield FC in the 1st round qualifying round on the 31st of August at the Martyn Grove.
