Lordswood 0-1 Greenwich Borough

Greenwich Borough kept up the fight for winning the League with a hard fought victory over Lordswood but it came at a price as after 15 minutes Jesse Darko was stretched off in an ambulance with a suspected broken leg, the irony of this was he was making his first appearance after breaking his leg.

The game started slowly s both teams got used to the windy conditions with the first chance of the game coming in the 12th minute when Ritchie Hamill’s free kick into the area was headed goal wards by Ashley Sains but Craig Holloway saved it easily.

In the 15th minute Aaron Singh-Sekhon committed a foul on Jesse Darko & he got booked for it but Darko stayed on the ground & it looked serious, an ambulance was called for & the match was delayed for 62 minutes.

The game restarted & three minutes later Lordswood had a chance to take the lead when Kyle McDowell 20 yards received the ball but his weak shot was easily saved by Holloway.

In the 25th minute it was Greenwich’s turn to have a chance when Mohamed Eisa went through on goal but his shot was saved by Ryan Nicholls. The best chance of the game so far came in the very next minute when a cross to the far post found McDowell who from 4 yards saw his shot cleared off the line.

In the 33rd minute another glorious chance fell to Eisa when from 20 yards he beat two defenders & then saw his shot parried away by Nicholls, two minutes later Patrick Sweeney running forward into the area & from 15 yards his shot with the outside of the boot narrowly missed the far post but then in the next minute Greenwich took the lead when Paddy O’Connor passed to Eisa who flicked it on for Michael Power who ran on to it & flicked it past the onrushing Nicholls.

The second half started with Greenwich in control & in the 51st minute they nearly doubled their lead when Power knocked the ball forward for Ryan Dolby & his volleyed shot hit the side netting.

Another chance came in the 57th minute when Power flicked the ball on for Eisa who ran into the area & saw his shot blocked by Nicholls.

Greenwich were in complete control & in the 62nd minute Nathan Paul chipped into the area for Power who chested it down & his shot was blocked & cleared, then in the next two minutes Lordswood had a half chances when first Brima Daramy got to the by-line & his cross shot was blocked by Holloway, then in the next minute McDowell tried his luck from 30 yards seeing his shot hit the top of the crossbar.

The rest of the half saw Greenwich dominating possession & in the 76th minute Sweeney tried his luck from 20 yards but he blazed it over the bar. Time was running out for Lordswood & in the 1st minute off added on time Hamill saw his snap shot go over the bar.

The final whistle went & it was relief for Greenwich in picking the three points up but sad as Jesse Darko was in their minds hoping it wasn’t a replica of the last major injury he had.

A footnote when the Referee spoke to both managers about when the game would restart or not the whole Greenwich team wanted to play on for the team mate & this showed in their performance today not brilliant but enough to get the points & this could be the pivotal moment of the season for them.
