Ademola Lookman’s move to Everton from Charlton Athletic was finally confirmed on Thursday afternoon.
Though the fee was given as “undisclosed”, it is believed the deal could be worth up to £11million, with the initial payment being in the region of £7.5million.
The 19-year-old made a total of 49 appearances for the Addicks, scoring 12 goals.
Lookman has penned a contract that will run until the summer of 2021 at Goodison Park. He had this to say after completing the switch:
“I am very grateful to everyone at Charlton for the opportunity I have been given. I’ve loved every minute of being here but when the chance to join Everton came in, it wasn’t one I could turn down.
“I’ll always remember my first game at The Valley and the support I received from the fans. I really hope the lads go on to achieve promotion this season. The players, the fans and everyone at the club deserves it.”.
Manager, Karl Robinson, added this tribute:
“Ademola is an incredible talent and has been a joy to work with during my short stint at the club. After a rapid rise through our academy system, he has been on the radar of Premier League clubs for some time.
“The club rejected a substantial bid for him in the summer and to Ademola’s great credit, he really knuckled down and underlined his potential.”
Shortly after Lookman’s drparture, Charlton announced the arrival of Brighton midfielder, Jake Forster-Caskey.
22-year-old Forster-Caskey has signed a deal until the summer of 2019. Robinson -who had the player on loan at MK Dons last seaon – was expecting a tough fight with the Seagulls to bring Forster-Caskey in on loan, so was delighted to sign the.player on a permanent basis, and had this to say to the club’s websitej
“I am really pleased to sign Jake, he is a real talent who has shown his quality in the Championship and to be able to attract him to League One is a strong statement of intent and shows what a big club Charlton Athletic is.
“When I joined Charlton, I earmarked him as the type of player we’d need but I thought it would be difficult with him being on loan at Rotherham, to sign him on a permanent deal is fantastic for us.
“I had Jake at Milton Keynes last season and he did so well for me that we loaned him again in January. He’s a talented midfielder with a real quality who will add a lot to our team, I’m looking forward to seeing him at the Sparrows Lane training ground and working with him again.”
Forster-Caskey added: “I’m delighted to join Charlton, I’ve been going out on loan for the last year, so I’m delighted to finally get a home. The club has got ambitions, so have I, and so does the Manager.
“We’re all looking up. I want to get back to the Championship and so does this club. It’s a huge club and I just can’t wait to get started.”
