Margate Football Club have announced the signing of Sam Long from Cray Wanderers, on a two year contract.
Bexley born Sam is 22 years old and a quick and direct player capable of playing on either wing and at full back. He was a member of the Cray squad who finished just outside the play-offs last season.
Sam started out at Charlton Athletic, where he progressed through the Addicks youth system. On leaving Charlton he trialled at Gillingham before signing for Grays Athletic. From there he went on to play for Histon, Tonbridge Angels, Croydon Athletic – from where he was released following the Rams well publicised problems – and Dover Athletic. He left Dover in May 2011; signing for the Wands during the summer.
Margate CEO Cliff Egan said: “I’m absolutely delighted that we have signed Sam.
“He is a player that Chris (Kinnear) had identified as someone he wanted to bring to the club.
“We have also agreed terms with two other players,” he revealed. “But that these signings would only be confirmed when all the paperwork is fully complete, in line with club policy.”
In the meantime, Manager Chris Kinnear continues to talk to players and further news about signings for the coming season can be expected over the coming few weeks.
