Charlton’s recruiment priorities will have changed due to Jason Pearce’s knee injury.
Steve Gallen had previously said that speedy wide players – both attacking and defensive – were his top priority.
But with Pearce likely to be missing from first team action until November, central defence will now probably top the priority list.
Naby Sarr left the club at the end of last season, so Gallen would have a left sided central defender on his radar anyway.
Tom Lockyer now seems certain to stay though. Lockyer invoked the clause in his contract that allowed him a free transfer in the event of the Addicks being relegated from the Championship.
The clause gave Bowyer 28 days to find a new club and expires at the end of the month.
Lockyer – along with Jonnie Williams – has been called up by Wales for international duty.
There have been no rumours circulating about the former Bristol Rovers man, and there is very little time left for him to find a new club.
Charlton complete their warm up campaign when they visit Selhurst Park to play Crystal Palace on Saturday. The game will kick-off at 2.00pm.
The Addicks will play their first competitive fixture on Tuesday. Lee Bowyer’s side will travel to Loftus Road to face AFC Wimbledon in the EFL Trophy.
The Wombles will move into their new home in Plough Lane in October, but will ground share with QPR until then.
Four days later, Bowyer will take his side to the County Ground to face Swindon in the opening round of the Carabao Cup.
He will be without Conor Washington for this game, as well as Lockyer and Williams, due to international commitments.
