SCEFL leaders Chatham Town lead Kent’s challenge in the last 64 of the Buildbase FA Vase this weekend as they welcome Flackwell Heath to Maidstone Road.
After beating Horley Town two weeks ago, the Chats welcome the Buckinghamshire side to Medway in front of a restricted crowd with boss Scott Lindsey looking to continue his side’s pre-Lockdown 2.0 form.
“I’m delighted to have a home draw” he admitted, “we knew the draw before they played Stansfield who incidentally are Luke Rooney’s Dad’s team which is ironic – we now know a little bit about them after seeing the game, so we have to look at it as a good draw!”
“I was pleased at the way we won through at Horley in the last round – it was difficult for the players being thrown straight into a competitive game, but I thought they went about the game in a real professional manner – there are things we can improve on, but we were really good on the day; again, we were free scoring but moving forward we’ve got to make sure that we’re a little bit tighter at the back.”
“I did have a bit of a moan before the Horley game about people making decisions aren’t real football people – to expect any team at any level to come from a four week lay off straight into a competitive game like that is a little unfair, but the players adapted really well and got through it and showed a great attitude to get through it.”
It’s been a fortnight since the 5-3 win at Horley, but Lindsey and his players havent been resting on their laurels. “I can assure everyone that we haven’t been “putting our feet up” since winning the last round,” he said.
“We’ve been working very hard on the training ground. There were things that we need to improve on and it’s given me time to get on the training ground with the players and put to them certain aspects of our game that needs improving to put right.”
“We’ve been doing a lot of work and doing some classroom stuff in terms of analysis from the game, looking back at where we can improve and hopefully come Saturday, we’re ready to go again!”
“We had to create our own atmosphere when we played behind closed doors – we play a real high intensity and enjoy the game and put a good performance on for everyone – I know that it’s difficult times for everyone, so we won’t try and moan too much!”
“We want to keep winning and put a smile on people’s faces no matter what we’re in, whether it’s the FA Vase or the League – we want to keep winning which is the environment we’ve created at the club.”
“We’ve got a brand of football that we’re proud of, which has been talked about a lot – we’re free scoring which has been talked about a lot, but we want to keep winning more importantly than anything; keep wining as many games as we can and all the time, we’re doing that we’re doing something right!”
