On Saturday Welling United visit Lincoln City just a few weeks after entertaining them at Park View Road.
Afolabi Obafemi helped the Wings claim the three points with an 85th minute winner on that night. Sam Corne gave Welling the lead two minutes before the interval but within three minutes of the resumption after half time, Liam Hearn equalised.
Welling went into that game following a very disappointing performance at Boreham Wood and they travel to Sincil Bank on Saturday on the back of another bad result..
Losing at home to Southport on Saturday dragged them back into the area where they are looking over their shoulders so they will be looking to get points on the board quickly.
Lincoln visited Boreham Wood on Wednesday evening and went ahead early on through target man Matt Rhead. Clovis Kamdjo equalised midway through the first half and the clubs went in level at the break. There was no further scoring in the second half and the point kept the Imps in fifth place.
They responded by adding Nathan Blissett to their strike force, on loan from Bristol Rovers
When Welling visited Lincoln last season, two first half goals, scored by Dominic Vose and Jason Williams, helped them to an impressive victory, at a time when they really needed a win..
Wings manager Loui Fazakerley wants to see a repeat of that after the disappointment of Saturday. “It’s pretty obvious that we need to change our fortunes and bounce back.”
“We’ve gone there (Lincoln) in tough circumstances last season and we’ve gone and got a great win.”
“We’re just going to have to do that again. The boys are more than capable of going there and winning.”
Some additional confidence can be drawn from the fact that the Wings have proved to be something of a bogey club to Lincoln. They have won all five of the encounters between the two clubs since Welling were promoted and will look to extend that impressive run.
