Having halted their run of consecutive defeats in midweek, Welling United are again on the road on Saturday with a game at Lincoln City.
Dominic Vose’s third Welling goal of the season gave his team a well deserved point at Gateshead. The Wings might have claimed all three points had it not been for a brilliant Adam Bartlett save from Sam Corne’s low drive.
Manager Loui Fazakerley was delighted with the battling point and the team will take re-newed confidence from their performance.
Alex Rodman’s dismissal was a key moment and Fazakerley changed his team’s formation to utilise the numerical advantage.
Lincoln are in mid-table, safe from relegation but with no real chance of getting into the play-offs. Their results have been inconsistent, but their home form had been excellent until losing their last two against Chester and Woking.
Back in September, Welling defeated the Imps at Park View Road. Jake Gallagher put the Wings ahead in the first half and Tyrone Marsh made the game safe with twelve minutes remaining.
Gallagher has missed the last five matches through suspension but he is now available. Fazakerley said “It’s a great boost. He’s a leader on the pitch, he helps drive us forward. Hopefully we’ll have him back for the rest of the season.”
When the teams met at Sincil Bank last season, Kris Bright put the hosts ahead in the 5th minute but Welling came back strongly with goals by Josh Wakefield and Harry Beautyman before the break.
There was no further scoring in the second period and Welling left the city with a well deserved three points.
