Gillingham will look to follow up Saturday’s excellent win at Accrington Stanley with three more points at Lincoln City this evening.
Manager Steve Evans is expected to keep faith with the starting eleven at Accrington as Olly Lee and Callum Slattery are set to sit alongside skipper Kyle Dempsey in a more dynamic and robust looking midfield.
With Vadaine Oliver set to plough a lone furrow up front, Gillingham should go into the game with a 4-5-1 formation looking to steal the points from the league leaders.
Alex MacDonald and Jordan Graham are once again expected to add width to the side as the back four of Jackson, Ogilvie, Tucker and O’Connor are set to sit in front of Jack Bonham.
For Manager Steve Evans, the game is a real challenge and he is expecting a tough test against The Imps:
“Lincoln City is a great football club. My daughter went to the university in the city, we have a little place there which we rent out, we love the city but it’s our job to go there on Tuesday night and do well.”
“This is a real footballing side with craft and flair and a desire to win matches. They have had a rest, which makes them really dangerous. They have top players and even players on the bench that would get into most teams.
“Anyone who finishes above Lincoln will be promoted to the Championship. They are an outstanding side. They have a manager (Michael Appleton) that I have the upmost respect for. He’s coached in the Premier League. They are talented and have recruited very well. We will need to be at our best.”
Sitting three points clear at the top of League One, Lincoln City clearly will be Gillingham’s toughest away test of the campaign, but Saturday’s win at Accrington has seen Evans’ side climb to 12th in the table, just seven points outside the play-off places.
Who would bet against a shock win for a Gillingham side that seems to have turned a corner?
