Having been victorious in the five previous matches between the two teams, Welling were fifteen minutes away from extending their record against Lincoln City.
They still came away with a good point but there was some disappointment in not holding out for the victory.
Both teams had early half chances early on. Matt Rhead sent a header over for Lincoln then Paul Farman did well to thwart Michael Bakare following a good flowing Welling movev.
Michael Chambers went wide and Ricky Wellard fired over for Welling before Tom King made an easy save from Rhead.
George Porter collected a pass from Nortey Nortei and found Sam Corne but the Wings’ midfielder hit a shot that took a deflection that wrong footed Farman but went fractionally wide of the near post.
Bakare flicked his header beyond the far post from Corne’s corner but Welling took a deserved lead just before the interval.
Lincoln got caught out by a quick sharp Welling break which was finished by Reece Harris after Porter’s unselfish ball set him free.
After the break, Welling were pressed by a Lincoln team showing a little more urgency. Rhead headed over then Alan Power shot wide.
Callum Howe had a header saved by King and Rhead saw his shot deflected wide. Substitute Terry Hawkridge was off target with a free kick before the Imps equalised with fifteen minutes remaining.
Maybe Welling could have closed him down, but Jack Muldoon smashed home a twenty five yarder that King was unable to keep out.
Both keepers made good saves in the closing minutes but the teams were forced to settle for a point apiece.
Manager Loui Fazakerley said afterwards “It was a good first half performance and a great time to go in front. We were always going to be up against it with the elements in the second half.”
“It is disappointing when you are leading in a game like this that we couldn’t hold on for what would have been a great three points. Coming away from this place with a point is something to be happy with.”
