Following a long barren spell, Welling United followed up their well deserved point at Gateshead with an excellent win at Lincoln City.
They had an early scare when Ben Tomlinson finished well but he had drifted just offside and the Imps supporters celebrations were cut short.
Dominic Vose gave the hosts a warning when cutting in from the left but firing over.
Jonathan Henly was called upon to make a fine save from Delano Sam-Yorke’s delicate dink but the Lincoln front man escaped a caution soon afterwards when jumping into Michael Chambers in the Welling penalty area.
Having had a warning earlier, Lincoln failed to find an answer to the threat of Vose, and when the Welling man cut in again, he fired a low shot that Paul Farman had no chance of saving to put the Wings ahead.
Eleven minutes later, Welling scored again when wing back Barney Williams won a hard challenge in midfield and sent Jason Williams away. Good control from the front man gave him time to steer an effort into the bottom corner.
Tomlinson curled an effort over the bar before Hamza Bencherif fired just wide with Henly rooted to the spot.
Jason Williams almost put the game to bed early in the second half but his first time effort from Reece Harris’ cross rebounded out of play off the post.
Nat Brown met a corner cleanly but headed over and Matt Marshall nodded wide of the near post as the hosts tried to drag their way back into the game.
Something upset Lincoln goalkeeper Farman and he raced out of goal to manhandle the referee for which he was cautioned.
He was soon in action again, saving from Jason Williams before both Sam Berry and Williams were booked for fouls.
Henly made another good save from Sam-Yorke and both Sam-Yorke and Tomlinson had opportunities as the Imps tried to pull a goal back.
Welling continued to scrap for every ball in midfield with Sam Corne and Jake Gallagher both impressing.
Tomlinson missed a great chance with a free header that was knocked down and up into the arms of Henly then Bencherif hit a 90th minute free kick well over.
Deep into injury time, Sam-Yorke was dismissed for a late challenge and soon after the Welling supporters were able to start their victory celebrations.
