Brett Lidsey is looking forward after what has been a hard season for him so far in the Clio Cup Series and is confident that he can be challenging at the top in the competitive series.Brett Lidsey4

The series is definitely a close one and more often than not the top drivers are separated by the closest of margins.

Speaking exclusively to Kent Sports News, he said: “The season has been hard this year as there is so much competition, qualifying has been all within one second with the top ten drivers, so we are always chasing tenths. I am enjoying the season even though it has been hard. I am learning more and more every time we hit the track.”

The calender has added a number of new tracks this season which Brett had yet to drive on but he is using the experience to move forward and his talent is underlined by the podium at Donington Park.

He added: “This year we have gone to a couple of tracks that we have not driven before, i.e. Donington and Oulton Park, with having a podium at Donington, this shows we are able to compete with the front runners.

“As we are right in the mix, you are more at risk of DNF’S.  Unfortunately this was the case at Oulton Park and also at Donington, it has put us down the table for the championship, but as we have a three year plan in this championship it is more about learning race craft and being consistent.”

Brands Hatch is Brett’s local track and he always likes to race in front of his friends and family and doing well for the home fans.

He said: “Brands Hatch being my local track, I always love to drive there, let alone race there, it is always good to drive in front of the sponsors and family and friends, but as everyone that races knows this adds to the pressure of the weekend.”

There are just two rounds to go of the 2014 season and Brett would like to see if he can better his biggest achievement of the season so far.

He added: “With the two rounds of the season to go, I would like to get back on the podium as this will help getting the sponsorship for next year.

“We want to do this championship again, and go for the win as I believe we are not ready for the next step until we prove we can win this championship first.

“I think my finest achievement this season was the third place at Donington Park, I got a great start and managed to stay out of trouble going into turn one, which put me into fifth, then a couple of drivers in front couldn’t hold on to their cars with the tyres still cold, this allowed me to come through into third, by then I was already on the back foot to catch first and second, so I just maintained the gap between me and the drivers behind by taking qualifying lines until the finish.

“I would like to thank all the sponsors ( Lift Out Ltd, Spectra Analysis, GHR Scaffolding, Certus Security, Dornack International, GPL Projects, and 20 Ten Racing),for making it possible, and especially to family and friends for backing me.”
