Brett Lidsey announced recently that he will be competing in the Clio Cup Series for a second straight season.
Following that announcement we caught up with Brett to get his exclusive thoughts on the season ahead what he will be looking to achieve.
Speaking to Kent Sports News, he said: “I came back to the second series as it is one make car and close racing, being at that level can only give me good experience for the future.
“I will be trying my hardest to improve on the second and third places that I gained in the first season. In the next season bigger teams are entering the championship, they will be hard to beat, but it only encourages me to do better, and try harder.”
As well as competing in the first season of the championship, Brett also gained valuable experience in the Autumn Cup.
He added: “The Autumn season was more competitive due to the bigger teams entering to test the series, it was more important for me to make a name for myself with more competition.”
The 22-year-old will be looking to hit the ground running as the season gets underway shortly and competing with all the new teams entering the series.
He said: “Yes we have an intense testing plan scheduled before this season starts, but this will be weather permitting.
“I like racing at Brands Hatch as it is my home town, it is easy for family and friends to come and watch, it is also a good short fast circuit and very competitive.
“I am looking forward to progressing through the racing series, hopefully moving to the BTCC flagship support race UK Clio Cup.”
Brett now owns the car that he races and he explains just how that was able to happen for him to be able to race.
He added: “I was able to buy the car with the help from my sponsors Lift Out Ltd, Spectrum Analysis, GPL Projects, Dornack International, Certus Security and GHR Southern. The car is run by Jade Developments, they have been in the Clio Championships for many years.”
Finally we asked Brett how he came to be involved in motor racing and whether it was a family member that introduced him to the sport.
“I rode bikes in Motor Cross, I had an arm injury. A friend invited me to go and watch him race at Brand Hatch, it was then that I decided this was the way to go, I started motor racing in Tin Tops, in 2011 I was voted best newcomer, 2012 I was class winner T3.”
