Brett Lidsey will return to the Michelin Clio Cup race series in 2015 and he is set to be joined by his younger brother Tyler.
The podium finisher and Tyler will be run by 20Ten Racing for the coming season, with Tyler taking to the track in the sister series the Road series.
The Dartford siblings, the first officially confirmed drivers for Derby-based 20Ten’s Clio Cup Series campaign next year, are relishing the prospect of racing together for the first time with 23-year-old Brett returning for his third season.
Brett has his sights set on a full title challenge in the headline Race Series at the wheel of his 2.0-litre normally aspirated third generation Renault Clio, having climbed the podium once this year on his way to eighth in the championship standings – four non-finishes having seriously impacted his bid.
Speaking about the upcoming season, Brett said: “We lost out on some good results with a variety of incidents this season, so we want to attack the Race Series again in 2015 and aim for the championship title.
“The long term aim is to get to the TOCA [BTCC] package and race in the Renault UK Clio Cup, but I want to make sure I am ready before making the step up.
“This year we were fast, only a few tenths off pole at most rounds, and if we can find a bit of extra momentum I’ve got a chance of living my dream and becoming a champion. I really want to get my first win as early as possible, everyone says after your first win it becomes so much easier so that’s what we want to achieve. I’m really happy to be with 20Ten again, it’s like one big family!”
For his brother Tyler, 2015 will mark the 20-year-old’s competitive motorsport bow in the Michelin Clio Cup Road Series at the wheel of a race-converted Clio Renaultsport 197. As a seasoned track day enthusiast, he has travelled to a variety of circuits across the UK and Europe but now wants to take the next step by making his race debut.
Speaking about his brother, he added: “Tyler wants to go racing and better himself as a driver, he has been piloting a 300bhp-plus Astra around tracks like Spa, Nurburgring, Brands Hatch and Snetterton but wants to take the next step. There’s no better championship to do that in than the Road Series, it’s aimed at people just like my brother.”
Next season will mark 20Ten Racing’s debut in the Road Series division with Lidsey Jnr the first confirmed driver for a planned multi-car entry in the class. Team principal Simon Hunt says the goal is for the Little Eaton squad to establish a clear ladder of progression in Renault Clio racing, from the Road Series and Race Series through to the Renault UK Clio Cup.
He said: “It’s great to have Brett staying with us for next year and we’re delighted to be entering the Road Series as well with Tyler. With a bit more testing and tuition, we should be able to get Brett consistently on the first two or three rows of the grid. He obviously wants to make the move into the Renault UK Clio Cup so regular podiums are what he needs.
“It’d be nice to try and do what Westbourne Motorspor has done by racing in the Road Series, Race Series and Clio Cup, create a bit of a ladder, so it’s fantastic to have Tyler confirmed for the Road Series. We’ve got drives available in the Race and Road Series, so we’re more than happy to hear from anyone who is interested in racing with us next year with some very competitive deals.”
