Lidsey aiming for home success

Northfleet racing driver Brett Lidsey returns to his ‘home’ track, Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit, this coming weekend where the Renault UK Clio Cup racer is aiming to deliver a successful conclusion to his first full season in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship feeder series. The 27-year-old, who lives just 20 minutes down the road from the ex-Formula One venue in Kent, has certainly tapped into a rich vein of form in recent rounds and goes into the final two races of the season on Saturday, 29th September, and Sunday, 30th September, brimming with confidence.

During the previous visit to Brands Hatch at the beginning of the season in April, on the shorter 1.2-mile Indy Circuit, Lidsey’s campaign didn’t get off to the most auspicious of starts when contact from another car flipped his MRM-run Clio onto its roof two corners into the opening race.

Since then, the increasingly quick driver has been making big strides in the hugely competitive Renault UK Clio Cup and last time out at Silverstone, just over a week ago, was case in point with a superb weekend.

Having battled engine maladies in recent events, a new powerplant in his Liftout, GHR Scaffolding Ltd, GPL Projects Ltd, Certus Security, Dornack, Taylor Made Decals and MS Motorsport-backed car for the penultimate event of the year enabled Lidsey to display his true competitiveness and pace.

Not only did he race to excellent ninth and seventh place results in the two contests, before being elevated into the top six in the second encounter following the disqualification of Paul Rivett post-race, Lidsey also made headlines after posting the fastest lap in each round.

With the impressive run of form coming at a perfect time for Lidsey’s family, friends, sponsors and home supporters who will be heading to Brands Hatch at the weekend in their droves, the MRM driver is looking forward to rounds 17 and 18 more than any other races this season.

“We all can’t wait to be back at Brands, especially on the full GP circuit – it’s a real challenge for the drivers and somewhere you’ve got to be absolutely on it”, commented the Kent driver, “It’s always fantastic to race at my home track, and we can’t wait to welcome lots of family and friends at the weekend, hopefully I can give them something to celebrate!

“Silverstone was a great weekend, it felt like we were properly on a level playing field for the first time this year to be honest. Taking fastest lap in both races proved how competitive we were and it was fantastic to battle up in the front group, it’s where we know we should be. I’m really hoping we can carry the momentum forward into Brands and end the season on a proper high.”

Going into the 2018 season finale just a few days from now, Lidsey is 12th in the championship standings and 15 points shy of 11th place which is the highest position he can end his first year in the Renault UK Clio Cup.
