Russell Slade and Kevin Nugent were given a rapturous welcome by the Orient fans when the Charlton team coach pulled up outside the Matchroom Stadium.
The O’s fans did make it clear though, that they were not impressed with rumours linking Orient icon, Dean Cox, with a switch to South London.
Nicky Ajose and Chris Solly were again missing with knocks, and new signing, Andrew Crofts, also missed out through a dead leg. All three could come into contention for Tuesday’s game with Ipswich.
Neither Lewis Buxton nor Kevin Foley were in the squad either, and Slade only named six substitures for the match..
Given the hot and humid conditions, it was never going to be a classic. Dillon Phillips got another 90 minutes under belt, and kept a second successive clean sheet. The young stopper had a relatively quiet afternoon.
Ezri Konsa played at right-back and acquitted himself well.
Brandon Hanlan got another start, and was a real handful for the Orient back-line. He shot narrowly wide after 25 minutes, when he robbed a dithering defender and fired across goal.
Two minutes later, Hanlon, Ricky Holmes and Morgan Fox put together a sweeping move down the left. Fox’s cross found Callum Harriott, but his header was hooked off the line.
Jay Simpson went closest for Orient, but headed over when we’ll placed after 15 minutes.
Harriott was involved in the two best chances the Addicks created after the break. First he played Ollie Muldoon in, but the midfielder shot across goal and narrowly wide.
Then, Harriott had a thunderous 30 yard effort saved by the keeper.
The game became disjointed in the latter stages, when a plethora of changes were made.
Slade will be happy with his team’s fitness, six of them playing the entire 90 minutes.
