An intriguing Challenge Cup tie on Wednesday has Southern Counties East Football League First Division team Lewisham Borough hosting Premier Division side Welling Town at the Ladywell Stadium on Wednesday 1st November.
Although not in the same division, Lewisham are looking good in their division while Welling Town are finding things less straight-forward in theirs.
Kevin Oates’ Boots had a tough day on Saturday when beaten six-nil at home to Erith Town with James Miles and Ollie Milton scoring a brace apiece. That left Welling in penultimate space in the table, one point ahead of Kennington.
Meanwhile, Lewisham were playing their first game in the new SCEFL Division One Cup. They defeated Croydon three-two. Zac Ajose and Ade Adeyinka gave them a two goal half time. Although Croydon levelled from the spot close to the end there was still enough time for Eddie Asiamah to clip home the winner. In the league they are in third place, five points behind AFC Whyteleafe but with a game in hand.
Both teams have already played one game in the Challenge Cup. Lewisham won three-nil at SC Thamesmead. Freddie Horlock scored twice and Bryan Zepo added a third.
However Welling were involved in a see-saw match. They went behind in just the third minute at Sutton Athletic to a goal by Louis Lovell but they levelled just before half time through Marcus Elliott.
Victor Aiyelabola put the visitors ahead early in the second half before Jacob Kalonda restored parity with fifteen minutes remaining. Shaun Omogbai scored the goal to send Welling through with seven minutes left.
