Abioseh Davies scored a brace for Lewisham Borough CFC against Halls AFC to end the visitors’ five game unbeaten Southern Counties East Football League Division One run.

Despite the dry bumpy pitch, there was plenty of skill on show as well as great endeavour from both sides in an entertaining floodlit game.

Davies had the first chance when he controlled it brilliantly before sending Zac Ajose away down the wing. He then held it up before playing it back to Davies who fired over from the edge of the penalty area.

Montel  Williams couldn’t keep a shot down for the hosts before Jordan Samuel’s shot bounced kindly for Halls’ goalkeeper Daniel Smithers and he held on comfortably. Davies again fired over before the visitors went close when veteran striker Ryan Golding prodded wide from Yokow Crankson’s knock down.

Once again, Davies had a chance when he went round Smithers but he scuffed his shot and Luke Kimberley was able to get it away. Emanuel Logan then shot over from the edge of the area after Jordan Bilongo’s cross was knocked out to him.

Golding’s low cross went right across the face of goal with nobody able to apply the final touch before he headed over after clever work by Zack Manning near the corner flag created space for him to score.

Five minutes before half time, Borough went ahead. Ajose sent over a deep cross and Davies finished at the far post.

Crankson prodded wide at the far post after a long throw was allowed to bounce and Manning almost got in but couldn’t squeeze it past Lewisham goalkeeper James Boughtflower. The hosts then came close to scoring in first half stoppage time when Chibueze Echem’s powerful drive was saved brilliantly by Smithers.

Shortly after the restart, Kimberley had a shot saved easily by Boughtflower before Frankie White and Crankson combined to get it over where it was knocked down to Manning who hooked over. Joseph Freeman was unable to keep a header down from a Mark Adofo cross as Halls continued to probe for an equaliser. However, it was the hosts who scored again on the hour mark. Bilongo threaded Davies through and he smashed it high beyond Smithers.

Gergo Petrovics sliced a shot wide of the near post after White and Crankson had again linked up well then Samuel launched a shot high over the bar.

Looking for a hat-trick Davies was played in by substitute Rio Campbell and his deflected shot tested Smithers who just managed to hold on then fellow replacement Billy Wells sped away and found Samuel who fired into the side netting.

As the game moved into stoppage time, Logan set up Campbell who drew another outstanding save out of Smithers.

Shortly afterwards, the hosts were able to celebrate their third consecutive win and clean sheet with their supporters. Although Halls aren’t guaranteed to finish outside the bottom three, one more point from their last two matches should be sufficient.
