Lewisham Borough 1-2 SC Thamesmead

On the night before Halloween, Cameron MacMillan’s brace helped Sporting Club Thamesmead complete the Southern Counties East Football League Division One double over Lewisham Borough.

He also scored the only goal in the first game when they met at Thamesmead back in August.

Having made the livelier start in the return game at the Ladywell Arena, the Acre went ahead in the third minute. They had already won two corners before Thomas Walters got to the bye-line and, under severe pressure, managed to pull it back. MacMillan was the quickest to react to fire home at the far post.

Walters then delivered a deep free kick, but the angle was against Alfie Clark and he couldn’t turn it home.

It wasn’t until midway through the first half that the hosts first threatened when Jordan Bilongo sent Ezekiel Paul-Kamara through and he crashed his shot into the side netting.

Aaron Walker’s long range shot for the visitors went harmlessly wide before MacMillan scored his second with half time approaching. A long pass sent him clear and he steadied himself before firing home.

After the break, the hosts looked brighter. Emanuel Logan sent Jordan Samuel away down the wing and his low cross was met with a first time shot by Paul-Kamara that went over.

However, they had an escape when a Walters corner appeared to skim off the head of a defender before coming back out off the framework of the goal. MacMillan then burst clear down the inside right channel and shot beyond James Boughtflower, but also the far post.

Eight minutes remained when Lewisham gave themselves hope by pulling one back. Nicholas Nunez slipped Paul-Kamara through with a delightful pass and the central striker’s first touch gave him the space to flick it inside the far post with his second.

Edward Asiamah then knocked it back for Logan whose snap-shot fired wide. However, their hopes of getting something out of the game were all but finished when Ryan Brown was sent to the sin bin in the final minute of regulation time.

Victory for Thamesmead extended their unbeaten league and cup run to five matches whilst ending Lewisham’s four game winning streak.
