Leiston 1-5 Folkestone Invicta
Leiston 1-5 Folkestone Invicta

For the second successive season Invicta ended Leiston’s unbeaten home record thanks primarily to a blistering four-goal first half at windblown Victory Road on Saturday.

And after taking just one point from four games in Suffolk last year, Neil Cugley’s side trebled that in one fell swoop against The Blues who began the day third in the Bostik Premier League table.

Jordan Wright came in for the suspended Kieron McCann and it was Wright who laid on the opening goal for Scott Heard after just seven minutes.

It was a relief for Ian Draycott and all Invicta followers when the double Golden Boot winner ended his goal drought at Met Police a fortnight ago, and it was the double Golden Boot winner’s second of the season that doubled the visitors’ lead when he coolly rounded Leiston keeper Marcus Garnham and knocked the ball into an empty net on 17 minutes.

This time Draycott’s strike was not in vain as Folkestone maintained their attacking momentum and Sam Hasler made it 3-0 from a typically fiercely struck free-kick just after midway through the first period.

Surely it was game over when Ade Yusuff scored from the penalty spot after a Leiston player had handled in first half stoppage time.

Invicta had to expect some reaction after the break and sustained pressure eventually led to Matt Blake reducing the arrears to 4-1 on the hour.

A second penalty of the game from Yusuff 17 minutes from time completed the scoring for the day and took the hard-working front man to 10 goals in his first season at Invicta.

Folkestone have to make the 300 mile round trip to Leiston again next weekend for a Buildbase FA Trophy tie, but not before they visit 23rd in the table in the Bostik League on Tuesday.

Folkestone Invicta: Roberts; Vincent, Davies, Newman, Blanks; Heard, Hasler (Madden 90), Everitt, Wright (Cooper 76); Draycott, Yusuff (Sahadow 90)
