Keiron Lehane from Chatham hasn’t had the best of seasons this season but he is fully focussed on next season.
He is hoping to be back with a bang and has plans to make sure that he is on the top step of the podium as he has been in previous seasons.
Talking us through the car that he drives and the work that goes through it and the family affair that involves.
He said: “The car started its life as a 1.1 Mk 2 Fiesta and has been built by the team from scratch. It now has a 1.6 CVH HT Racing engine, an RS Turbo LSD gear box, full race suspension and exhaust. Without the driver and extra weight the car weighs in at around 760kg and has 155BHP at the wheels.
“It’s a Fiesta as we’ve had a few over the years and it was such an easy car to work on – the whole family have had a hand in the process. We are on the point of changing to a new car for next season though so watch this space….”
Keiron has been limited in his race time this season competing mainly at local circuits when the car has been ready as he explains.
He added: “I’ve also raced at Lydden and actually did better there. The costs do have an impact but often it is whether the car is ready to go.
“Unfortunately the car wasn’t set up before the first Brands meeting and so didn’t go as well as anticipated. By the Lydden meeting it was running as it should do and performed brilliantly. Unfortunately the Bank Holiday weekend was marred by the gear box breaking which also meant we weren’t able to head off to Silverstone on 7th September.”
“It has been a bit disappointing at Brands this year as in previous seasons we’ve achieved several first in class at the circuit. In 2009 we finished second overall in the class in the championship.”
“It’s always good to race at a home meeting and so we’re lucky enough to have two tracks (Brands and Lydden) however, the opportunity to go further afield and experience other circuits is very welcome.
“It was good to be part of a full race card at the Lotus Festival but when you’re taking part there is surprisingly little time for watching!!
With the 2013 season starting to wind down a little bit thoughts turn to the 2014 season and preparing for the racing.
“We’re definitely working on plans for 2014 and are looking to change the car over the winter.”
