Lee extends Gillingham deal

Gillingham Football Club have today agreed a deal with midfielder Olly Lee that will see him stay at Priestfield for a futher month.

The twenty year old has agreed to extend his current youth loan deal from West Ham United having impressed in five games for The Gills.

Lee, the son of former Newcastle United and Charlton Athletic midfielder Rob, will now be available to Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler for Tuesday night’s game with Crawley Town and will be with the club until April 15th.

Speaking after Saturday’s 3-0 win at Cheltenham, Hessenthaler told the club’s offical website:

“The amount of work the midfield did was brilliant and we saw the best bits of Olly Lee and to be honest we haven’t seen that yet, we know what he can do.”

“I’ve seen him at West Ham and I think he produced what we have all been waiting for and he will tell you that himself.”

Indeed, Gillingham fans that made the journey to Cheltenham on the weekend were treated to Lee’s best game in a blue shirt. His range of passing has got better over the past month and it was his defence splitting ball that set Jordan Obita up for his first goal.

Lee, who will be out of contract in the summer, isn’t expected to be offered a new deal by the Hammers and would be available on a free transfer should The Gills be interested in the long term.
