Gills boss Steve Evans has bolstered his midfield options with the capture of Olly Lee from Scottish Premier League side Hearts on loan until January 27, 2020.
The 28-year-old returns to MEMS Priestfield Stadium for a second spell having featured seven times during the back end of the 2011/12 campaign.
The former West Ham youngster signed a three-year deal with Hearts last summer having impressed while at Luton Town where he made 123 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 times.
He has also enjoyed spells with Dagenham, Barnet, Birmingham and Plymouth Argyle.
On joining the club for a second time Olly said: “It’s nice to be closer to home and I’m looking forward to enjoying my Football. I’m excited to be a part of what the club is trying to achieve; the Gaffer was very encouraging when I spoke to him.
“I’m a mature player; I like to get on the ball, create goals and score goals.”
Manager Steve Evans added: “Olly has been outstanding during his time at both Luton and Hearts. He is attack minded and can play on the right side of the diamond or at the top.
“He scored a cracker against Hibernian last season; I have an excellent relationship with Hearts boss Craig Levein and when he said he was available I quickly made contact. I’m absolutely delighted to have signed him as he had three or four other potential options in League 1.”
The move is subject to international clearance.
