Langton looking for football return
Langton looking for football return

Hugo Langton is looking for his next role within football and he’s hungry to get back working within the game.

Hugo Langton

Having left Bromley just a few days before the start of the new season for non footballing reasons, Langton is weighing up his options ahead of taking on another job.

With his phone having been busy in the past few weeks, Langton is looking to take the right opportunity for himself and his family with the former Ashford Town manager having already got a great CV after coaching at clubs like Gillingham, Charlton Athletic, Thamesmead Town and Herne Bay whilst also managing at Horsham.

Running his own scouting company, Langton Football Services, Hugo is no stranger to watching lots of football and having not been involved directly with a club over the past few weeks, he’s desperate to get back involved:

“I’ve had a great two years and I must thank Bromley for giving me the opportunity. Over the years I have taken some knocks and I’ve never said I can’t deal with this anymore and I’ve always come back bigger and stronger.”

“That’s exactly what I intend to do this time and I know whatever my next job is, I can add value to any club. I’ve worked hard for the past ten to fifteen years and I’m not going to allow it to go ot waste.”

“I’m happy to talk to anybody and I’ve got a huge knowledge of the game at all levels from non league up to League One.”

“Throughout my career I have studied the game and learnt, I’ve adapted and spent a lot of time with people more experienced than me, good people and that’s exactly what I’m going to continue to do.”

“The long and the short of it is I am obsessed with football and being the best possible coach I can be. I will continue to look forward and see what comes up.”

Knowing the Kent football scene so well, Langton is one of the most recognisable and popular faces on the circuit and he’s thankful for all the support he’s been shown in recent weeks:

“The support I’ve had and the phone calls I’ve had has blown me away. I’ve taken calls from league manager and all throughout non league and taken loads of calls from players wishing me well.”

“The whole timing of looking for a new role is tough as teams have their staff in place, so I might have to sit tight for a bit.”

“I hope it’s not going to be too long because I am ready to go and I’m already getting under the wife’s feet at home.”

“I would never go shopping on a Saturday afternoon and to be fair my family would never ask me to either!”

“I have been out watching some games and helping a friend of mine who is a league manager, looking at a couple of teams and advising him.”

“I’m getting out and watching games at all levels, I’ve been to Ryman Premier, Conference South, League One and I’ve been to a Ryman South game.”

“I will keep mixing it up, watching games at all levels and then when the phone rings I will be prepared for it.”

Bromley champs

Having coached at various levels, been an Assistant Manager and managed clubs, Langton has a wealth of experience and is open to suggestion when it comes to whatever role that may come along:

“You never say never and I’ve done it before and I really enjoyed being a manager. I am an ambitious guy and I love being out on the training ground putting on sessions.”

“If somebody wanted to speak to me about management then that’s great and I will talk to anybody. We will cross that bridge when we come to it. I’m forty years old and I would like to manage again some day, but I’m in no major hurry.”

“A lot will depend upon the club and their ambition. I’m happy to manage, assist or coach, whatever it takes for me to get back into the game as quickly as I can.”

With a wealth of experience at scouting teams, producing reports on opposition and preparing sides for matchdays, Langton comes with a whole host of skills to help any side and he’s hoping they will give him the ammunition to help his next side he’s involved with:

“With regards my scouting company, I train scouts to do reports on opposition and teams can get them at low cost. I have also got another side project on the go.”

“Saying that, playing football and trying to get the three points is like a drug and I need my drug.”

“Football is a 24/7 thing and I want to be the best and if you want to be successful, you have to dedicate your life to it. That’s pretty much what I do.”

“I wake up in the morning thinking about the game and I’m always thinking about ways to improve myself, improve training, improve a player.”

“I’m constantly talking to other coaches, finding out about their methods and seeing what I can take from them.”

“That’s why I love what I do as there’s always something new to learn and something new to think about.”

Kent football has seen a real upsurge in fortunes in recent seasons with seven clubs now in the top divisions of non league football and Langton believes there is a real chance some of them could be challenging Gillingham in seasons to come:

“The state of football in Kent football is in great shape especially in the higher end of non league. There are a lot of Kent clubs in the Ryman League and if you look in the Conference South we have Margate, Maidstone United, Dartford and Ebbsfleet United.”

“They are four bigs clubs with huge ambitions and want to move on up the leagues and I’m sure some of them will want to be league clubs and who’s to say they won’t do it.”

“As long as they live within their means, all four clubs have outstanding managers, some young and some inexperienced, but they all have that common goal, they’re thirsty to be successful.”

“In the Conference National, Mark Goldberg said he wants Bromley to be a league club within three years and who’s to say they can’t do it?”

“Welling United have had a great turnaround under Loui Fazakerley and Chris Kinnear down at Dover Athletic is doing an outstanding job.”

“I’d have to say there are some really exciting times ahead for Kent football.”
