A second half winner from Will De Wilde was enough as Langton Green took home the Kent U14 Boys Cup.
Wilde’s goal in the 10th minute of the second half was the only difference between the sides in a free flowing, attacking game.
Langton Green’s Caleb Moore almost opened the scoring inside the first minute when he was sent through on goal, but his shot was pulled wide.
Welling controlled the early possession and almost took the lead through Hayden Bullas and Aidan Clark who both saw their shots go wide.
It was then the turn for De Wilde to go close for Langton. The attacker must have thought he was going to score when he saw a clear path to goal, but his shot was saved well by Jed Campbell in the Welling goal, powerfully palming it away, before easily collecting the subsequent corner.
As the floodlights came on and the sun began to set over Salters Lane, the second half commenced, with both teams pushing to get that decisive goal.
Ten minutes into the second half that goal came for Langton Green when the ball landed at the feet of De Wilde who shot from the edge of the box, beating the goalkeeper and finding the bottom corner.
Langton should’ve doubled their lead shortly after, but Campbell saved well from Archie Parsons.
Welling piled on the pressure as they looked to get the equaliser, however Langton Green stayed resilient in defence to keep hold of their lead.
