Gillingham’s on loan striker Jo Kuffour is glad to be back amongst the goals having scored twice at the weekend.
The 29 year old striker is currently on loan at Priestfield for three months from Bristol Rovers and capped a fine performance against former club Torquay United at the weekend with two quality goals.
In only his third appearance for The Gills, Kuffour is already showing his talent and why he is rated as a fox in the box and he is glad to have bagged a brace against his old club:
“It was very sweet. We knew that Torquay weren’t the best starters. But to be up 2-0 and then get pegged back to 2-2, I thought the lads were terrific to go on and win the game.”
“I hadn’t really played for five weeks when I signed [on loan]. I wasn’t playing at Bristol Rovers, and I was training with
the youth team. But I feel like I’m getting stronger now.”
Kuffour had a real chance to get a hat-trick, but opted not to when The Gills were awarded a second half spot kick:
“I thought about going for my hat-trick, but my rule is not to take a penalty when I’ve been brought down, and Luke
[Rooney] put it away really well.”
“There was some great attacking play from both teams, and every time we went forward we looked like scoring.”
“Our fans gave me a good reception when I went off, but so did the Torquay supporters.”
“I had a great time here, and I’m grateful to them.”
Gillingham are believed to have the option of making Kuffour’s switch to Priestfield permanent when the January transfer window and if he keeps scoring goals Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler could we be keen to make that move happen.
