Jayde Kruger finished his first part season in the Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain with a podium in the season finale at Brands Hatch.
Although the final round of the season wasn’t the best one he has had during the season, he was pleased to get some experience in the wet conditions.
Speaking exclusively to Kent Sports News about his first season in the UK, he said: “When I first got to the UK I thought the wet would be a weak point coming from South Africa we hardly ever have wet races so my wet weather driving is limited but to my surprise I actually now really enjoy driving in wet conditions, there is a lot more to think about while driving and the feeling of driving the car on the limit in the rain is great.
“It was a good weekend for the team, Juan had a great weekend and I think it’s a good way for any team to end the season.”
Reflecting on his race weekend at Brands Hatch Jayde wasn’t happy following his first victory the round before at Silverstone.
He added: “For me it was a really disappointing weekend as I had really high expectations and coming off a win at Silverstone I wanted to follow that up with a win at Brands. I think it was possibly the worst results I have had this season.
“Unfortunately we had a terrible qualifying, I think we over analysed the conditions for qualifying and were expecting the track to be dry towards the end of the session and the circuit never dried out. So starting from third and fourth for the races wasn’t ideal especially with the grid being really narrow, even with great starts I wasn’t able to make any passes.
“I really enjoy the GP circuit really challenging and fast but because it’s so flowing it’s really difficult to make passes. It’s not that different to race on compared to the Indy circuit but a lot of time can be made or lost on the GP part of the circuit.”
Looking back at his first part season in the Formula Ford Championship it was clear that Kruger has had a great time.
“I have enjoyed every minute of it it’s been a tough season but it’s the greatest opportunity I have had in my racing career. Racing on BTCC weekends is great with a huge following. Motorsport in the UK is a massive industry compared to back home and it’s incredible for me to be a part of it.
“Going into 2014 I think I’m in a much better position as I have now raced on most circuits that I will be racing on next season and circuit knowledge is vital. I have also learned so much about the car this season that I will take with me into next season.
“I’m going back home for December to spend some time with my family over the Christmas period but I will be back in January and ready to get the season going.”
