On a day when none of the top five in the Bostik Premier won, Invicta’s draw with Kingstonian at Fetcham Grove won’t have damaged their chances of finishing in that section of the table.
Yes, okay, those loveable lads Billericay were not in league action, but it does gives us a chance to mention their home 5-2 defeat by Wealdstone in the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy which certainly will have given a fair few non-league followers a bit of a chuckle.
After two almost exemplary performances and six points out of six with wins over Wingate & Finchley and the aforementioned ’Ricay, Invicta understandingly started with an unchanged side for this first meeting of the season with the Ks.
As the home side will probably admit, you’re playing the pitch as much as the opposition on Leatherhead’s notoriously difficult playing surface and there was little between the two sides in a goalless first 45 minutes.
And it was the home side who went ahead eight minutes after the break through former Southend, Chelmsford and Welling striker Jason Williams.
Their lead however lasted less than 10 minutes when Johan Ter Horst and Ade Yusuff broke forward in unison and after a neat exchange of passes Yusuff turned in the equaliser just after the hour.
The visitors raised their game in the closing stages and Ter Horst did everything but score forcing an excellent save from experienced keeper Rob Tolfrey and having the ball in the net but his effort was ruled out for an alleged handball.
Ian Draycott also tested with a good free-kick but eventually Folkestone had to settle for a point, but stay comfortably fourth in the table with plenty to play for.
