Kent Kings Speedway club management have been speaking about the position regarding the two reserve berths in the CTA Fire sponsored National League side.
Co-promoter Len Silver admitted, “At the moment we accept that we are weak in the no. 6 & no. 7 reserve berths in our side and there is not a quick solution.”
Keen to emphasise throughout all recent team management decisions, the importance of growing a rider asset base for the Central Park-based side, Mr. Silver went on,
“With there being no immediate or easy fix to this situation, it is exactly why we are intending to “grow our own” by giving Danny Ayres and Jason Garrad, both ex-motocross riders, an extended run in the side. ”
“Both are very, very inexperienced when it comes to Speedway racing and we fully understand this to be the case. And currently this certainly shows, but it is our opinion that they are worth persevering with as both show the potential to get among the points in the not too distant future.
“Both of them are getting valuable additional experience in the more junior Midland Development League with the Rye House Raiders side (indeed both scored maximums for the Raiders in their last outing); and Jason in particular is training at as many places as possible in between Kent’s meetings.”
There was an understanding that some Kings’ supporters have expressed frustration at seeing some former incumbents of the reserve or second string slots in the Kent side prospering at times with other clubs, as Mr. Silver accepted,
“ While it IS certainly aggravating to see riders we have dropped or have moved on getting points elsewhere, it does not alter our view that the riders we have chosen will be better in the long run.”
The next challenge racing the CTA Fire Kings’ rookie reserves and indeed the whole side is on Monday (30th.) when last season’s championship runners up the King’s Lynn Young Stars visit Central Park – the National League action gets underway at 6.30pm.
