King extends Plymouth loan

Gillingham defender Simon King has extended his loan spell with League Two side Plymouth Argyle into a second month.

The centre-back, 28, has impressed in his three games with the Pilgrims to date and caretaker manager Carl Fletcher has negotiated an extension with Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler.

King will now stay at Home Park until November 5.

Hessenthaler told the club’s official website: “It helped Josh Gowling when he went out on loan to Lincoln last season, he came back and got back into the side and there`s no reason why that won`t happen to Simon.”

King has been hindered by a hip flexor injury during his spell at Plymouth in the past month, but is hoping to play a full part as the Pilgrims look to lift themselves off the foot of the table.

The defender has found himself down the pecking order at Priestfield this season following a frustrating two years after sustaining an ankle injury at Bromley in the summer of 2009.

King is out of contract at the end of this season and is known to be considering his future in the game if he can’t play football on a regular basis.
