Three wins in a row have given Welling United a huge lift and they head to Kidderminster Harriers with extra confidence.
Two players, Sam Corne and George Porter, were absent at the start of the week due to their inclusion in the England C training camp. This should give all the other players a boost, knowing that consistent performances can be recognized.
Kidderminster have had a tough start to the season and are still searching for their first victory of the season. They have drawn six of their thirteen matches and none of their defeats have been heavy, so Welling can expect a tough match. Loui Fazakerley’s team will need to work every bit as hard as they have done to pull out of the relegation zone.
Last Saturday, they drew 1-1 at Barrow. Reece Styche put them ahead, but after the hosts had equalised, Alex Palmer came to the rescue, saving penalties in the 62nd and 84th minutes.
There has been some player movement at Park View Road this week. Winger Sandro Semedo has signed on loan from Leyton Orient until 9th January.
Meanwhile, some players who have not had much playing time recently, have gone out to get some first team action. Kojo Awotwi is on dual registration with VCD Athletic and returned there on Tuesday night for the Vickers’ 3-2 home defeat to Billericay Town.
On the same night, Tashan Adeyinka and Joey Taylor made their debuts for Leatherhead in another Ryman League Premier fixture, a 3-0 victory over Grays Athletic.
In the corresponding fixture last season, a live televised midweek game, Kidderminster claimed the three points. The hosts were two up within forty minutes courtesy of a huge deflection and a goalkeeping blunder.
Harry Beautyman halved the arrears in the 53rd minute but Welling were unable to score again to claim a point. They were then punished further when cameras picked up an elbow by Chris Bush that the referee missed, and he was served with a three match suspension.
Travelling Welling supporters will be hoping for a better return this weekend.
