On Wednesday night, Welling United experience their first ever league game ‘live’ in front of the TV cameras when visiting Kidderminster Harriers.
They have done much travelling in recent weeks but once the razzmatazz starts, the Welling players will look forward to showcasing their talents.
Sadly, one player who will miss out is team captain Jake Gallagher who will be serving a one match suspension having totted up five bookings.
Last Saturday, they extended their undefeated run to five games with a late but fully deserved equaliser at Chester.
Hosts Kidderminster are in ninth place in the table, but just four points away from the play-off zone. Their home form is good with four wins, two draws and just one defeat so far, although being held 1-1 by basement club AFC Telford United at Aggborough Stadium on Saturday was unexpected.
In the corresponding fixture last season, Welling looked to be holding out with Lee Butcher saving an Amari Morgan-Smith penalty but former Ebbsfleet United striker Michael Gash broke the deadlock with thirteen minutes remaining. Seven minutes later Nathan Blissett added a second and the hosts saw out the remainder of the game in comfort.
Sam Corne or Zach Fagan will probably replace Gallagher but both may play if Jamie Day is unable to play two games in a week. Malachi Hudson pushed for a starting place by claiming an assist for Tyrone Marsh’s late goal but Jon Nouble will be keen to hold him at bay.
It promises to be an exciting evening as the Wings make club history.
