Kent County Cricket Club today announced that Rob Key has been appointed as Club Captain for 2012.
Key became captain of the Club in 2006 replacing Dave Fulton, making him currently the longest serving captain in county cricket.
He has scored 13,906 first class runs for Kent at an average of 41.88, and has represented the Club in 462 matches in all competitions.
Commenting on the appointment, Chairman of Cricket, Graham Johnson said: “I am delighted that Rob has taken on the role for 2012. We continue to be ambitious in what we hope to achieve and having a captain as experienced as Rob to lead the team is very important.
“He continues to be committed to ensuring the future of Kent Cricket is as bright as possible, and his passion for the Club’s success is undimmed.”
Rob Key said: “It continues to be a great privilege to lead the Club on the field. Now I have had my wrist operation – which seems to have gone well – I am determined that we work hard to ensure 2012 is as successful as possible.
“I look forward to working with all our players on the challenges that lie ahead.”
Commenting on the appointment, Kent’s Chief Executive Jamie Clifford was glad to have got his man for next year:
“I am delighted that Rob has committed to being Club Captain. He has a wealth of experience, and through this period of change that will be invaluable. I have spent time with him over the last couple of weeks and his passion for Kent cricket continues to burn.”
