Kermorgant pens new Addicks deal

Cult hero, Yann Kermorgant, penned a new two year deal with Charlton Athletic on Wednesday, with the option for an additional year.

Chris Powell was thrilled the Frenchman committed himself to the club and had this to say:

“I’m really happy that Yann has agreed a new deal, he was sensational last season. He came in and made a mark not only with the players and in the team but with the supporters as well.

“I know they already think he’s a bit of a cult hero, a real old-fashioned centre-forward. He scored some terrific goals, including free-kicks, and obviously there was the goal against Hartlepool United which ended off the season in the right way.”

Meanwhile, a mix of youngsters and out-of-favour senior players were involved in a practice match at Sparrows Lane on Tuesday afternoon. The opposition comprised a group of European trialists.

The Addicks romped to a four goal win, the goals coming from Morgan Fox, Adebayo Azeez, Harry Osborne and Joe Pigott. On the basis of the scoreline, it seems unlikely that any of the European team will be getting a contract offer from Charlton.

The Addicks team include Chelsea youngster, James Ashton, in midfield.

Sky are reporting that the club have rejected an offer from Cheltenham for Leon Clarke. Oldham have already had an £80,000 offer knocked back.

Charlton travel to Barnet on Thursday evening and it is likely that Powell will again experiment with a 4-3-3 formation. The game at Underhill, together with the fixtures against Crawley, Gillingham and Fulham are likely to be contested by players seen as first teamers.

There may not be the mass changes at half-time that Powell has used thus far and Charlton fans will be hopeful of catching a glimpse of ex-Rangers midfielder, Salim Kerkar.
