Our Tuesday night round up begins with disappointing Emirates FA Cup news from Gloucestershire – Ebbsfleet United are out after losing 0-2 to Cheltenham Town.
Tyrone Barnett’s header midway through the second half and Alex Addai’s second four minutes into stoppage time was enough to send Cheltenham to Accrington Stanley in Round Two, whilst the Fleet ended with ten men following the late dismissal of Sam Magri for a second yellow card.
Elsewhere in tonight’s other replays and National League South side Slough Town won the right to host the Gills or Hartlepool United in Round Two after winning their replay 8-7 on penalties after their replay finished 1-1 after extra time with Sutton United.
Meanwhile former Hythe Town striker Alfie May netted four including a 35 minute first half hat-trick as Doncaster Rovers hammered Chorley of National League North 7-0.
Locally, in the Velocity Trophy Second Round, Tonbridge Angels bowed out of the competition (at Worthing) despite taking the lead seven minutes before half time through Liam King. Sam Rents then levelled for the home side and as the game finished level 1-1, it was Worthing who won the shoot-out 3-2.
After the game was called off last week due to travel problems, Folkestone Invicta hosted Hayes and Yeading United and eased into Round Four with a 2-0 win. Adam Yusuff put Neil Cugley’s side ahead just moments into the second half before Finn O’Mara doubled the lead on the hour.
In SCEFL, the two games that survived saw Fisher go second with a 3-1 win over Canterbury City. Andrew Mott netted twice for the home side in the first half (either side of Rob Lawrence’s equaliser) but Fisher couldn’t guarantee the win until Ritchie Hammill’s last minute penalty, whilst Bearsted’s long unbeaten run is well and truly over as they were beaten 4-0 by Corinthian who themselves go fourth in the table.
Oscar Housego and Jack Billings gave the visitors the lead in the opening 15 minutes – it was to prove to be a lead the visitors doubled in the second half courtesy of Shaun Brown and Sam Bewick.
The game between AFC Croydon Athletic and Chatham Town was rained off.
And so, Kent are left with two representatives in this season’s FA Cup – fingers crossed that that will still be the case after Gills Wednesday night replay.
