The most successful county in 50-over Women’s cricket will once more play in the format for 2021, as Kent Women will play in a Women’s London Championship (WLC) alongside four other counties.

The tournament provides meaningful playing opportunities that aid the growth of players and the game itself, through a competitive structure that is built upon proud county identities.

For 2021, Sussex Women will join Kent Women, Surrey Women, Middlesex Women and Essex Women in a league structure where the table-topping side after all teams have played each other once will be crowned as champions.

‘The Horses’ will travel to Essex Women in a local rivalry showdown to begin the tournament on 1st May, followed by clashes with the other sides in the tournament across the month of June.

After Surrey Women won the inaugural competition in 2020, Kent Women will look to secure the ‘WLC’ this coming year and once more have the title of the premier county in women’s 50-over cricket.

Kent Women’s Head Coach, Dave Hathrill, said: “This competition is an ideal opportunity for players to showcase their skills in a format frequently played in by regional centres, in a competitive, high performance environment.

“We will be using this competition to continue our proud tradition of promoting younger players into the First XI to gain invaluable match experience, as we continue to look to provide players with the necessary skillsets and talent to both regional sides and national teams.

“Everyone associated with Kent Women is excited to once more play in the Women’s London Championship, and alongside the Vitality Women’s County T20, we’re all looking forward to a fuller and more competitive 2021 season.”
