Round one of the National T20 Cup competition starts on Tuesday with the Kent Women’s Cricket team aiming to retain the title they won in 2013.
‘It meant a lot to us to win the Cup last year and we are very keen to retain it,’ stated Captain Charlotte Edwards.
With the team’s current form in the Royal London One-Day Cup, where they are unbeaten, they will be seen by many as the team to beat but Edwards is cautious of getting too far ahead of themselves.
‘This is a completely different format of cricket, played under very different conditions, with two day tournaments involving three teams. We are in a tough group and will need to play to our potential to progress.’
Round one will be played in three groups throughout England with the nine First Division Counties divided into three groups of three.
Teams will play each other twice, over two days, with Kent’s opponents being neighbours Essex and Surrey.
Hosted at the Hayes Cricket Club in Bromley, Kent face Surrey first up on Tuesday morning, 10.30am, then get to watch Essex compete with Surrey, before completing day one with a match against Essex, proposed start time 4.30pm but subject to change.
Day Two, Wednesday 23rd July, repeats the same three matches in the same order.
Winners of the groups go on to compete at Finals Day of the competition on Sunday 3 August at a venue to be determined.
The squad to play in the T20 Regional Finals, Hayes Cricket Club, Bromley, Kent BR2 7AA, Tuesday 22 July and Wednesday 23 July is:
