Kent will welcome back batsman Heino Kuhn when they take on Surrey on Tuesday in their latest 2020 T20 Blast fixture.
Kuhn, 36, hasn’t played since the first game of the 2020 season due to his wife giving birth, but he is back available for selection on Tuesday and will be a welcome boost to the Kent squad.
He scored an impressive 140 in their opening Bob Willis Trophy fixture at the start of August as Kent pushed 2020 County champions Essex all the way, before eventually succumbing to a two wicket defeat.
His addition to Kent’s squad means they have a selection of 15 players to chose from for the game.
Whilst Sam Billings and Joe Denly are still unavailable due to England commitments, Zak Crawley is still with the county, and he, alongside captain Daniel Bell-Drummond, who scored 71 runs from 42 in Kent’s last outing, and a number of other batsmen, ensures the batting depth is looking healthy ahead of the matchup.
The bowling department is unchanged, with Calum Haggett and Grant Stewart included despite difficult starts to the tournament. Fans’ favourites Harry Podmore and Darren Stevens still miss out.
Fred Klaassen, who has four wickets from the first two games at 17.50 apiece, is expected to lead the bowling attack.
Kent’s last outing was an extraordinary one – after an ordinary bowling performance – all seamers going at over 10 runs an over – allowed Middlesex to put 209 on the board, openers Bell-Drummond and Crawley got the Spitfires off to a rapid start.
Kent looked on course to chase down the runs throughout their innings and required just eight to win from the final over, but smart bowling from Tom Helm meant the game was tied, with Kent running a bye off the last ball to ensure they took a point away from Lord’s.
The result followed a washout in Kent’s opener against Hampshire, meaning they have two points from two games and are still in search of their first win in the competition.
Remarkably, Surrey’s record mirrors Kent’s. After a washout of their own in their opening game at Sussex, they tied with Essex on Sunday.
Their squad is looking healthier after a tough start to the summer, with the likes of Rory Burns and Ben Foakes now available for selection. They also welcome overseas star Hashim Amla, who played 44 T20s for South Africa, and England bowler Reece Topley into the fold.
The visitors will be hoping to get revenge against the Spitfires after a brilliant bowling performance from Kent meant they defeated their oldest rivals by 17 runs just a week and a half ago in their Bob Willis Trophy encounter.
