Kent trio to compete in Clio cup
Kent trio to compete in Clio cup

Kent will have a trio of competitors in the inaugural Michelin Clio Cup Series with Protyre which launches in May.Clio's in action

The first race will take place at Snetterton where David Pierce from Larkfield will take part under the banner of Procom Team Racing banner.

Also competing will be James Weston who will be making his debut in the Clio Cup Series, racing for Sudderia Vittoria. Brett Lidsey from Dartford will achieve a dream of driving a racing Renault Clio.

Pierce raced in the Clio Cup UK in 2000 and has been in recent seasons racing Renault Clio’s in the Euro Saloon series. Pierce will be driving the car that Sam Todoroff who you can see in the British Touring Cars at the moment drove in the National series in 2010.

So far there have been 14 confirmed drivers with the grid expected to expand before the opening event on the weekend of the 11th and 12th May.

The team they will all be looking to beat is the 20Ten racing, with former Renault Clio Cup UK competitor Peter Felix, he will be joined by Team Principal Darren Wilson and Graham Mulholland, both of whom have also competed in the National Championship.

Also racing in the Racecar class like all those above will be Mazda Mx5 Cup Champion Luke Herbert, after a successful 2012 the Chichester racer is expected to be one of the front runners.

Several of the runners were on track last week at Snetterton to take part in a test session as they looked to get their cars tuned and race ready for the opening round of the season.

It was indeed Herbert who was the fastest in the pre-season testing sessions to underline why he is one of the favourites for the title.

Kent’s David Pierce was up there as well in his Clio posting the sixth fastest time of the day, to show that he has the pace to compete when it comes to Clio racing.

The racing will see a mix of Renaults taking to the grid from thoroughbred Racing Clios to converted Clio Renault Sport 197’s and 200 road cars. They will race this more affordable race series on slick tyres.

The first round of this newly formed Championship takes place over the weekend of the 11th and 12th May at Snetterton 200 circuit.
