Kent suffer Canterbury washout

Kent’s County Championship game against Glamorgan came to a disappointing end on Sunday as rain washed out what could have potentially been a thrilling day.

After reaching 64/3 at stumps on day three, Glamorgan declared overnight in an attempt to set up a run chase on the final day. After Kent put on a quick 60, Glamorgan were left with 84 overs to chase 304 runs to win, but rain soon put an end to any hope of a result on the final day.

After another heavily rain-impacted day on day three in Canterbury, Glamorgan declared overnight on 64/3, 243 runs behind Kent’s first innings total of 307, to tease a result with both teams needing the points.

Michael Neser bowled the first over of the day which went for eight, and Kent’s openers Ollie Robinson and Jordan Cox continued to accelerate until the former was caught by Chris Cooke, chasing Neser down the leg side, for 14.

Number three Zak Crawley kept up the scoring pace with Cox, and once the lead reached 300 Spitfires captain Sam Billings called his team in for the declaration, with Kent setting Glamorgan 304 to win from a scheduled 84 overs.

Joe Cooke and David Lloyd opened the batting for Glamorgan in their second innings, and Lloyd was soon back in the hutch, playing Matt Quinn onto his stumps for 17 to give Kent encouragement of a potential victory.

Sadly however, the rain soon arrived, and after an early lunch the heavens opened, flooding the outfield and causing a disappointing draw. Kent took 12 points and Glamorgan 11, a result not really helping either team in their push for Division One qualification.
