Kent Spitfires v Hampshire Royals Preview

Kent Spitfires welcome the Hampshire Royals to the St Lawrence Ground just two days after overcoming them at the Ageas Bowl.

Having completed the tense, 3-run victory in Southampton on Friday night, the two teams are set to meet in Canterbury on Sunday afternoon, with the Spitfires expected to once again name an unchanged side, their victory over Hampshire having propelled them up to third in the FLT20 table.

The Royals remain bottom of the division, having played three games.

Kent completed their closely-fought victory over the Royals in the final over on Friday night, Matt Coles bowling the deciding over well enough to leave the hosts short of their target.

Sam Northeast had earlier impressed in the batting department, top scoring with 46 from just 26 deliveries with seven boundaries.

James Tredwell was the pick of the Kent bowlers, taking 2-27 from his four overs, having made the dash down from international duty with England in Leeds to reach the game just in the nick of time. Adam Ball (1-20) and Mark Davies (0-16) also impressed, bowling tight lines and giving the Hampshire batsmen little to score off.

The Royals are set to make one change to their squad for Sunday; spin bowler Danny Briggs will be replaced by Hamza Riazuddin with the former unavailable due to international commitments.

Pakistan star Shahid Afridi is also still unavailable for the visitors having had problems with his visa, but is expected to be available for them shortly.

With the weather forecast predicting showers for the duration of Sunday’s game, players, staff and fans alike will be hoping that the rain passes over the SLG and a full game’s play is possible.

Kent CEO Jamie Clifford publically lamented the problems the weather has posed for the club this season last week, and pleaded for the fans to show their support for the club and come along to the games.
