The chances of a more housing at Kent Cricket’s home at Canterbury took one step closer today.
Kent County Cricket Club and McCarthy & Stone Retirement Lifestyles Limited have announced that they have exchanged contracts to bring forward a proposal for the residential redevelopment of part of the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, Canterbury that has existing planning permission for a hotel, conference and leisure facility.
An extensive public and member consultation will precede the submission of any further planning application.
Kent Cricket Chief Executive Officer, Jamie Clifford commented on the announcement; “I am extremely pleased that we have exchanged contracts and our plans will progress to the next stage.
“We have spent a number of years marketing the ground in the hope that we might be able to see a hotel developed. It has become clear in the last 12 months that this is now very unlikely to happen, hence the change of direction. McCarthy & Stone are a leader in their field, and I look forward to seeing a high quality development at the ground.”
