Kent lose close Canterbury game

Kent’s Clydesdale Bank 40 campaign ended in defeat on Monday afternoon with the Derbyshire Falcons victorious by three wickets.

Having posted a respectable 208 for 9 off their forty overs, the Spitfires were unable to peg back the Falcons sufficiently with the visitors winning with three balls to spare.

The Spitfires had got off to a decent start with Joe Denly following up Friday night’s century against India with a nicely timed 35 off just 36 balls, whilst Azhar Mahmood went on to top score with 68.

Wickets kept tumbling though as the innings went on and only a superb 34 off 30 balls from stand in skipper Geraint Jones saw the side through to a respectable 208 for 9 off their 40 overs.

Needing just over 5 runs per over seemed to be within Derbyshire’s reach throughout their innings despite losing Chesney Hughes with just two on the board.

Wayne Madsen hit a majestic 64 off just 69 balls as the visitors sneaked home in the final over of the game.
